Can we copy New Yorkers and ban cars on major pedestrian frequented streets in our Australian cities?

Better still lets not disadvantage people who still need to get around the city by making them do what the chinese are doing every day in their congested cities....that is...saturation of pedestrians using environmentally friendly electric scooters and electric bicycles....
