What has happened with my bankruptcy?

Two years ago I declared bankruptcy. I then came into some troubles and moved away, and being the irresponsible girl I was, never took care of completing my bankruptcy and being discharged. I left it open and now that I am back and need to sort myself out I called my bankruptcy trustees to find out what I need to do. They advised me that "as trustees, they were discharged from my bankruptcy". I am not exactly sure what this means. I believe it means that because I never took care of it and did the duties igned they closed the file and all my debts would have been reinstated and its as though my ankruptcy just never was. Is this correct? Does it mean I do not need to be discharged now as all my debts are now my responsibility again and the bakruptcy is just gone? Any help would be hugley appreciated.
